The One Thing Remote Teams Need Most

The One Thing Remote Teams Need Most

It’s estimated that by the end of 2021, 25% to 30% will be working remotely in some capacity. That’s absolutely incredible! Remote Teams are here to stay and there’s plenty to love about working remotely.

According to a survey of 10,000 employees put on by the Becker-Friedman Institute for Economics at the University of Chicago:

  • People save an average of 40 minutes each day from not commuting.
  • People are saving on average close to 500 dollars per month being at home during COVID-19. Resulting in savings close to $6000 per year.
  • A mere 20-25% of companies are paying some of the cost for home office equipment and furnishings.
  • 59% of respondents said they would be more likely to choose an employer who offered remote work compared to those who didn’t.

Those are ALL wins! Your employees are saving time and money, reducing the stress of a daily commute, your business is not seeing a rise in cost for furnishing the opportunity. 30% of respondents to the survey answered as being MORE productive when they are able to work from home.

Another win for your business!

While there are many benefits to you and your employees, one element is missing: relationships.

Your team needs relationships.

Relationships are built with time and proximity. They need an incubator. They need the opportunity to bloom.

So, the question becomes, as nearly 30% of the workforce moves out of the traditional workplace:

How can you build relationships with a team that’s not together in one place?

Virtual Events are the answer.

The value for your employees in being a member of your team is going to be forged in the quality of the experiences you are able to offer them to participate in. It’s pretty hard to pull off a successful trust fall on a video conferencing call. The truth of the matter is you have to prepare to bring extra energy when engaging together over video or in a virtual environment. Passion, enthusiasm, and sincerity all suffer from the same energy suck that happens from not being present in the room together.

A great way to overcome this is to have engaging virtual experiences for your team to participate in. Letting them share an experience, rather than simply sit in on another conference call, leverages imagination and creativity to overcome the energy gap of meeting virtually.

You need to have a regular rhythm of time spent dedicated to building trust and camaraderie within your team. And, since your workforce is no longer spending time physically together, you’ll need to work extra hard at making the moments you do spend together virtually count.

To overcome the distance, or lack of proximity of your team, you need to make experiences memorable. Shared, meaningful experiences have the potential to live longer in the minds of your workers.

Relationships take planning. You need a planner.
