Do you aspire to be the next Michelangelo but can’t paint your way out of a box, let alone the Sistine Chapel? Would you love to be able to hang a piece of art in your home that you created yourself without people asking which one of your children painted it? If the police asked you to draw a sketch of a crime you witnessed, would it look like a bunch of stick people playing volleyball? Do you actually have artistic skills and are looking for a fun way to spend an evening?
If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, LetsVidya Paint Night has you covered. Over the course of an hour-and-a-half to two hours, your host will guide you through either a theme we have picked for you or a subject you suggested if you’re requesting a corporate or private experience. Drink a little wine, swirl a little paint, have a few laughs, and end up with the satisfaction of knowing how to release your inner creativity.
Aimee Bruce, one of the very bubbly and informative Paint Night hosts for LetsVidya, graduated from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia earning a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in Drawing and Design. After graduating, she spent three years as a paint instructor for a local gallery that offered paint and wine experiences. So, she’s extremely well-versed at providing quality instruction for any aspiring painter, from beginner to master and everything in between.
“I’ve had people start a Paint Night event by saying they can’t paint at all,” says Aimee. “But once I show them how to do it, they end up saying, ‘Oh, I can paint!’ It’s a real eye opener. People really enjoy these experiences, especially if I have a smaller group and I can provide one-on-one instruction to each individual. With larger groups, I provide a lot of details and different techniques. It’s definitely a learning experience.”
As mentioned previously, the Paint Night experience is available for private parties and corporate events. However, LetsVidya will be offering evening events on the second Tuesday of each month for individuals who want to join in on the fun.
“We have a whole library of beach and sunset paintings we can use for themes,” says Aimee. “But if someone wanted to do something more urban, like a cityscape, something about animals, or some other idea they’d like to bring to life, I can definitely create a master to go by and we can take it from there.”
Once you sign up for the course, a paint kit that includes acrylic paints and a canvas will be assembled and mailed to you one to two weeks before the event. You’ll just need to supply an area where you can set up your easel and paints while still being able to watch your phone, tablet, or whatever you’ll be using to connect to the event. Wine is optional, but not discouraged.
